Sourav Ganguly Celebrates His 47th Birthday: Cricket legend Dada turns 47

Former India captain Saurav Ganguly had Born on July 8, 1972, and he turned 47 on Monday. Affectionately known as Dada’, Ganguly is one of Indian Cricket’s most iconic personalities. He celebrates his 47th birthday today, many Indian cricketers flooded the social-media with wishes for the veteran.
Sourav Ganguly twisted the face of Indian cricket with his unparallel leadership, aggressive approach and unmatched batting skills.
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who is known for his quirky social media posts and currently performing his commentary duties in the ongoing World Cup, was among the firsts to wish Ganguly on Twitter, in his own Viru style.
DADA made his Test debut against England and went onto register a century at Lord’s. Ganguly received the nickname God of off side’ due to his exemplary skill of playing shots on the off side.
Ganguly Played 311 ODIs and made 11,363 runs in his career, Ganguly is currently the third highest run-scorer for India in the 50-over-format. Sourav Ganguly shared great camaraderie with Sachin Tendulkar and both went onto put together 6,609 runs in 136 matches that includes 21 century partnerships and 23 fifty run partnerships.
Sourav Ganguly was handed over the captaincy of Indian team in 2000, when Indian Cricket was going through a period of turmoil. Ganguly changed the mindset of Indian players and instilled the belief to win overseas and play the game with an aggressiveness approach.
As a captain, Ganguly is India’s joint most successful skipper overseas. He drew a Test series in England and Australia as well beat Pakistan at their own backyard.
Ganguly led the team to its first series victory against South Africa. He also successfully took the teams to the finals of the 2000 ICC Knockout Trophy.
Ganguly’s shirtless celebrations at the Lord's balcony after India’s Natwest tri-series win over England is one of the most iconic moments in the history of Indian Cricket. Furthermore, he led India to the final of the 2003 World Cup. Sourav Ganguly retired from all formats of cricket in 2008, scoring a formidable 85 in his final test match against Australia.
